Jean-Pierre's Musical Activities... See here

Jean-Pierre Sighé

Jean-Pierre Sighé of West Central Africa’s Cameroon nation grew up in a cultural environment where dancing was part of normal living. Equipped with his African dancing background, he later discovered the

Latin dances and immediately felt their appeal. Living in Europe, he delighted in Salsa. In the U.S. he pursued his passion for Salsa dancing and decided to further explore Latin dances, such as Rumba and Cha-Cha in the Ballroom context. In 1998, he was invited to discover the Argentine Tango. He intensely and exclusively studied with his first teacher s Alberto Paz and his partner Valorie Hart for several months.

Solidly grounded by Alberto and Valorie's instructions, he later intensified his learning with other Tango Masters, such as Carlos Gavito (and Marcela), Fabian Salas, Chicho (Frumboli), Julio (and Corina); and occasional classes with Eduardo and Gloria, Fernanda and Guillermo, El Indio. Jean-Pierre has been dancing Tango since 1998 and believes e veryone of these Tango Masters opened an enriching window in his mind.

His motivation for teaching Tango derives from his desire to share with others the beauty of this wonderful gift to the world from the Argentinean people. He does not want to simply teach a set of steps following some futile pattern. Jean-Pierre desires to faithfully transmit to others what he has had the privilege to receive directly from the Tango Masters - the spirit of Tango.

Rotating Assisting Teaching Partners

We are here innovating in a new formula where Jean-Pierre will be partnering with more than one talented dancers in their role of Assistant Instructors.

The "Assistant" in front of the "Instructor" should not mislead anyone as these Ladies do have a deeper understanding of Tango and qualify for helping with the instruction of the Dance and the spirit of Tango.

They will be rotating in a way that will insure their continuous presence. Please, check the Tango calendar to know who is on schedule.

Vivian Bui

Born and raised in the East Bay, Vivian Bui played the piano and studied music theory for 12 years before discovering dance in high school. She performed hula and Tahitian dance throughout the Bay Area and for the University of California, Davis for 3 years as well as dabbled in flamenco dancing in Santa Cruz, California, before she stumbled upon the Latin dances and Argentine tango while going to graduate school in Seattle, Washington. She has studied tango with various instructors in Seattle, the Bay Area, and Buenos Aires. She has also been a tango teaching assistant in Seattle and taught salsa-dancing to high school students in the East Bay.

Vivian has been dancing tango for 3 years and credits social dancing with keeping her calm and relaxed during otherwise stressful times. Tango has helped balance out the more technical aspects of her profession as a wildlife biologist, for example, while she was writing her Master’s thesis and during various field work expeditions. When she was working for a parrot conservation project in the Bolivian Amazon rainforest, Vivian would still find time to practice her Tango, even if it meant dancing barefoot in the dirt with nothing but a solar-powered iPod! This type of joy and creativity is what Vivian hopes to share with others while helping to teach Tango.

Lindsey Newbold

Lindsey Newbold, a graduate student originally from Pennsylvania, first began dancing tango while she was in college near Philadelphia, with tango teacher David Walter.  She has been a leader of two college/university tango clubs and loves introducing new people toTango.

She took a few classes with Damian Lobato in Panama and Philadelphia, and after moving to the Bay Area she has taken classes with Sean Dockery and Charity Lebron and of course Jean-Pierre Sighe, among others.   She discovered tango after years of dancing square dance, contra dance, swing, Scottish country dancing, and still occasionally enjoys these dances, as well as salsa and Kuna folk dancing (in Panama).  She loves tango and is excited about being an assistant Tango teacher.
