Some few years back...14 years ago, we, at The Tango Magdalena introduced a NEW CONCEPT that I called " "SALIDA CON "LOKO" ("loko" here not to be confused with the Spanish "loco" meaning crazy...unreasonable...etc. "Loko" here is a Cameroonian word meaning: swaggart) The time is again appropriate to teach that concept. |
The Concept: A dancer, by definition, is a FREE Creature who uses her / his body, to project Movement. In an improvisational environment, the gift to conceive and project that movement, on the spot, is a great quality to develop. Most people, if not everybody, agrees that TANGO IS AN IMPROVISATION. Great!... Why then learn a bunch of steps to memorize? We have long set our standards at the Tango Magdalena and now The Magdalena Technique, to show people HOW to IMPROVISE. It is in that framework that the "Salida Con "Loko" was born.It was taught to some few Advanced dancers. We are doing it again! The premise was the following: why should the Cruzada be ALWAYS AND ONLY done with the left foot over the right, for the lady? (the back Cruzada is specific and not in question here). Is there a Law that prohibits crossing on the other side: right foor over left? The artistic instinct kicked in and a series of video were created to sustain the thought process.A video was made on the Cruzada, then the Closed-embrace and Open-embrace.
