LINDA BURNHAM
We are very pleased and axcited to have Linda as STUDENT OF THE MONTH, on this August 2019. I remember clearly when Linda first came in. I remember quickly noticing from one class to the next , how she was gathering more and more presence of her own Walking. When she was given the "molinette" exercise and understood how it was relevant to the Art of Tango, she started looking more and more as a Tango dancer. She is definitely progressing quickly, as expected, when the learner puts some time to practice. In her own words: " Tango was a struggle for me in the beginning. I was really attracted to the dance and went to a few different teachers. I was prepared for the difficulty of mastering the steps, and knew it would take a long, long time to become proficient. But I was not really prepared for the complexity of the dynamics between leaders and followers. Sometimes I felt like I was being pushed around the floor. Or sometimes my co-learners who were leaders seemed to be attached to outmoded gender dominance roles. Dance has always been a refuge for me, but I was leaving tango classes in a really bad mood. Suffice to say, my daughter made a painting of me with the title “Tango Bitch.” Then I met Jean Pierre and my relationship to tango changed completely. Jean Pierre is a tango teacher and a tango philosopher. His wisdom settled me in the dance. Each week I progress in learning to move in tango and learning to stay centered on my axis and in good relationship with my partner on the floor. I’m so grateful to Jean Pierre for leading me through my tango journey. Oshalla reminds me to bring with me into tango what I have learned from decades of yoga. And Irina always has helpful, welcome tips on technique. I look forward each week to my Saturday afternoons with the terrific Magdalena team!r"
Bravo LINDA!!!!!!!!! ean-Pierre, Irina and Oshalla
